Billed as 'The Tough One' and very tough in places, this is a fantastic event i woudl recommend to anyone. The organization was great and the marshalls fantastic! (Especially standing around in all that rain). If you're bored of pounding tarmac - this is a must!

Ewen Purcell, Worthing District Harriers, 12-May-2010

I had a fantastic day. Yes, it was cold and wet and a tough course but the scenery was fantastic, the marshalls were fantastic - so cheery and helpful and encouraging while being sympathetic to my sorry state. I am so grateful to them for standing out on the course for so long. They were all stars. Thank you for organising such a fantastic low key event. I'll be back next year hopefully fitter and faster and better at running down hills!

A lovely race, even in the rain! A massive thanks to the lovely marshals for helping to make the event special.

Sarah Hunt, , 05-May-2010

Really appreciated the friendly stewards who made the weather bearable! and finishing possible.....Just!

David Gordon, Purley Rotary Club, 05-May-2010

Thank you for adding me to the results. Also I would like to echo what has been said before because it can't be said enough - the support was amazing from ALL the marshalls and supporters.
Thank you
Rebecca

rebecca, , 04-May-2010

I simply cannot praise the marshals enough, truly extraordinary. Unbelievably helpful and cheerful despite the conditions. The free refreshments at the end, and the copious amounts of biscuits on offer during the race, was the icing on the cake.

Sean Rainey, , 04-May-2010

Thanks for adding me into the results.
Thanks for a great race, and
Thanks to ALL the marshalls. Several hours out on the hills in atrocious conditions - you're all stars!

Sue Sleath, Hardley Runners, 04-May-2010

Could not agree more with all the comments about the marshalls - brilliant - thank you, all of you. I could not thank you enthusiastically enough on the day!!!!

One niggle about the results........Six of us, I think, came in together, so my time should be 5:31:51 - I think you missed one of us and gave me the bloke behind me's time.

Steve Till, Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC, 04-May-2010

My first marathon, what an experience! Very friendly event, again great marshalls and helpers encouraging me on my way. Thanks to all the runners who helped me round. As for improvements I'm not sure it's my first time but such a great event could be made bigger I guess with more stalls, kids activities etc at the start it would bring in more people.

Steven Prior, , 04-May-2010

Brilliant event (again), the marshals were fantastic especially in view of the vile weather! I managed a spectacularly muddy crash in the 26th mile but received lots of help from everyone around and the lovely St John's lad who jogged with me to the finish.
Thanks to all involved.

Claire Steward, Dulwich Runners AC, 04-May-2010

As one elderly, wet and cold marshal, who was part of a team that survived (just) 4 hours at Steyning Bowl, if I wonder why I do it I just have to read the thank you notes above and I know. Thanks for remembering us.

Roy Taylor, Portslade Hedgehoppers, 04-May-2010

As a first timer I wasn't sure what to expect but great fun, highly recommended, well organised, and I didn't mind the weather (made it more fun!) - will back next year. As far as suggesting improvements - more mile markers would have been a great help; a bigger tent/marquee to keep dry before the race; chip timers and the massage guys were tucked away.

Stuart Warren, no club, just for fun!, 04-May-2010

The marshalls deserve a medal especially those brave souls at Chanctonbury Ring where the fruit cake was absolutely brilliant. I could have done with some hot soup as my hands were absolutely numb at that point. Brilliantly organised and good fun despite the weather which made it so much tougher than last year. I teamed up with Helen Jamieson for the last 8 miles and that really helped us both. We finished together in 5:10:36 but her time should be the same as mine and that for Diane Delderfield is wrong as there was only Helen and me who finished at that time. Well done to all involved. I will do again next year but with gloves.

David Butler, Tone Zone Runners, 04-May-2010

Please thank all the marshalls and helpers who remained in there places and helped julie compleat her 208th marathon she will hope to improve greatley next year

stephen wing, maidstone harriers, 04-May-2010

A huge thank you to all the marshalls and everyone involved in organising and supporting the event this Sunday! The smiling faces along the way were a great lift during a rain soaked 2 hours 2 mins of my PB half marathon!! Particular thanks to the family that I think I saw twice, cheering and banging their pots and pans!!
Was really struggling on the ninth mile, but then saw the 10 mile marker and realised I was actually doing OK! Please can we have more distance markers next time!? Thank you again to every one, a fantastic day, despite the weather!

Ed Dimmock, RainHater, 04-May-2010

Thanks for organising the event so well in such bad conditions, and a big thank you to all the marshals and helpers who were all full of cheer dispite the weather.

Cedric Clemerson, , 04-May-2010

Big thanks to the marshals who stayed out in the awful weather and managed to keep smiling! By the way - you have posted a picture with my name on it - it isn't me in the picture though...

Lucy Clayton, Sandhurst Joggers, 04-May-2010

What a wonderful organised event and worth getting out of bed for, despite the atrocios weather !!!!
it was my approx 14th half marathon in 2 and half years and the toughest yet especially after running my 1st (Brighton) marathon , as didnt think I'd run that well and being a medium weighted bloke (2 hr 11 Mins)!!! I deffo be back next year! ( I intend to try the 40 mile - half marathon route first then the full one same time prob meaning an earlier start say 8 am)
Suggestions for next year .... (a) Hot Soup! ( if weather same as this event!) (b) chip timer ( for accuracy time of run and prevention of confusion.)
Come along to Kenilworth Half Marathon on sunday 26th Sept ( one of the top 50 in UK !
see you there !! email me on sportybroomy@hotmail.com or Kenilworth Runners website www.kenilworthrunners.co.uk

Martin Broomfield, Kenilworth Runners, 04-May-2010

Many thanks to the Rotary Club and everyone else involved with the Rotary club for organising a tough, challenging, but rewarding run. Particular mention to the Scouts, and others who were out on the course in appalling weather conditions. Well done. A nice medal to finish and good facilities were very welcome. Just some constructive feedback on the course; more signs at 'key' points would have been a bonus. Several junctions were unmarked and the route was not clear as to the direction it took. Fortunately, i know some of the area and the guy in front of me has run the race before. If not for that, then i would have struggled. More signs are even more imperative in such harsh weather conditions with some sections higher up having poor visibility. This is not negative feedback as hopefully the comments will assist with planning of future races. Thanks again.

Thanks very much for a fantastic experience, would like to echo the comments below about the route, the support and the marshalling; all were excellent. I enjoy running in the rain & cold normally, but at times it got close to making me wish for a nice sunny day. Will certainly be back next year. Please could you add my club name to my result, bib no. 311, thanks.

ian culton, Tone Zone Runners, 04-May-2010

just wanted to know if the photos have been put on yet as iv put my number into the website that is linked to this one and nothing has come up, are they uploaded yet ???

laura raeburn , worthing harriers , 04-May-2010

Thank you for organising such a fantastic event, a superb course with some of steepest hills and best views of Sussex anywhere. Well done to all the stewards who bravely faced some fairly cruel weather, the chocolate digestives were outstanding.

I will be recomending this one to all my fellow runners brave enough to take on the challenge which was oh so worth it.

Trevor Nash
PS. Could you please up-date my result with my club name.

Trevor Nash, Horsham Joggers, 04-May-2010

The weather this year ensured "The Tough One" lived up to its name! Special thanks to all the marshalls who were just brilliant. Good organisation and water stop frequency was spot on as I hardly used my Camelbak at all.
If you could correct the spelling of my surname in the results sheet, that would be much appreciated (Darney, bib #52). Many Thanks.

Bryan Darney, Goring Road Runners, 04-May-2010

Thanks for a really well organised event. To echo the many comments I only saw smiling faces on the marshalls - quite something stuck out getting cold and wet for hours on end. Great scenery....and good challenge from the weather....nice medal....and we liked the choccy biscuits.

chris gambs, portsmouth joggers, 03-May-2010

Hello - I really enjoyed the race but am disapointed to see that I have been missed off the results list - my bib number was 858 and I came in around 2.20. Do I have an official time and position?

rebecca, , 03-May-2010

Thank you to all the people concerned for a great marathon day despite attempts by the heavens to dampen spirits. I hope the marshalls have warmed up by now. They all deserve medals.

This was my first 3 Forts but won't be my last

Antony

Antony Bishop, Steyning AC, 03-May-2010

What a great course! What an appalling day! Thanks so much to all of the marshalls. It was vile to run in, but it must have been truly wretched weather for marshalling. You all had a smile and the support you gave is appreciated. We may well be back (but we might check the forecast first...). To add to the results revisions, Kurt's marathon time (#58) is listed for Jack Crossley (2 finishers back). I'd be happy with losing a minute off my time, but I only earned the 4:29:57. A few portable loos for the ladies might be a good addition in future, since there was a problem with 1 of the 2 available. Thanks for the experience and the stories from this excellent event!

Kurt & Nicola Dusterhoff, Evesham Vale Running Club, 03-May-2010

The post below by Sue Sleath probably explains my predicament with the results, Race number 77, I finished in 5.28.16 by my watc, yet have been given the time of one of the two chaps that finished together behind me.
I would be grateful if you could ammend the results

Bob Gear, Springfield Striders, 03-May-2010

Great day - the weather was good character building stuff! I am a novice in the marathon running fraternity but will be back next year - if only to beat my time! Thanks to the organisers and special thanks to the marshalls for managing to smile all day! :-)

Simon Dunn , , 03-May-2010

A well organised event, tough course, dreadful weather! A big thankyou to all the mashalls. Would recommend it to others, will be back next year.

natalie mccreath, seaford striders, 03-May-2010

You seem to have missed me off the marathon results! I finished in a time of 3:57 and was told, on finishing, that I was 2nd woman/13th overall. I was a minute or two in front of Lucy (Gettins), who I overtook a couple of miles from the end. And finished just ahead of race number 117 (we commented on the similarity of the numbers) My race number was 171. Hope you can add me in- it was a tough race to be ignored.

Sue Sleath, Hardley Runners, 03-May-2010

This was my 10th marathon to date and it was one of the toughest I have done - tougher even than Doyen of The Downs Ultra! The weather was really rather gruesome but the marshalls at all the stops and water stations were just fab. Many thanks to them for staying put in what must have been pretty grim conditions...I MIGHT be back....if only for the half. Fantastic event. Many thanks.

Nuala Smyth, Arunners, 03-May-2010

Thanks great event beautiful course well organised such a shame about the weather i will be back next year

stevencaine, , 03-May-2010

I would just like to thank the marshalls for there fantastic support in really tough conditions. I ran the marathon and without your encouragement and drink stations ect, I think I'd still be running. Many thanks to all and see you next year.

Grant Patterson, Worthing Harriers, 03-May-2010

Thank you for a great event - poor weather for the organisers but the support was brilliant as ever!

Lucy Gettins, Compton Harriers, 03-May-2010

Very good event. Well organised and excellent marking on the course (Half Marathon).
Looking forward to next year.
Congratulations.

Eamon Fitzgerald, Unattached, 03-May-2010

I'd like to say a big thank you to all the Marshalls standing out in awful conditions and they all managed to stay cheerful. The grooup up at Chanctonbury deserve special recognition as it was particularly awful up there!

Bob Gear, Springfield Striders, 02-May-2010

Well organised. Good frequency of stops. Could do with starting an hour earlier (maybe). choice of food at aid stations wasn't that great - digestive biscuits are very dry, and no good on the go (i spoke to a few other runners who agreed). only one stop had it right (chanctonbury ring) where they had fruit cake and bananas. apart from that - great day out. really enjoyed it (despire dodgy conditions) will certainly consider it next year.

ed holt, n/a, 02-May-2010

Thankyou to all the Marshalls for standing and supporting cheerfully in hideous weather!
More distance markers would have been useful .
The toilets at the female changing were not adequate and blocked - maybe portaloos?
overall a well organised event thankyou offering a different challenge to the normal half marathons - I'll definitely be back next year!
Lastly a massive thankyou to the absolute star who found my missing car key - never thought it would be found , and the kind lady who dropped it off this afternoon!

Rachel Burstow, , 02-May-2010

You should give more information about local accommodation, B&Bs and camping for those who wish to stay overnight before the event

Chris Rowland, , 02-May-2010

Can you create a badge to buy re: three forts challenge - its such a great logo and would look superb as a badge to go with the others I have - and additionally it would be a wonderful advert for the race in years to come.
I hope you can arrange this
