Route Description

Known as "The Tough One" the Three Forts Marathon (approximately 27.2 miles) includes a total of c. 3450 ft of climb with stiles and rough tracks underfoot. The route runs northwards from Hill Barn to Cissbury Ring, then eastwards towards Coombs then to Botolphs and the River Adur crossing. The route then goes to Devil’s Dyke and back to the River Adur. It contin-ues on the South Downs Way to Chanctonbury Ring, where it swings south-west to Findon Park Farm. It stays on public bridleways to Cissbury Ring and back to Hill Barn.

The Half Marathon, with a total climb of c.1450 takes a shorter route to Steyning Bowl and picks up the last part of the Marathon route. The map shows the route in more detail and can be used in conjunction with the appropriate OS map.

The Cissbury Walk, of about 5 miles, goes to Cissbury ring and back and the longer Chanctonbury Walk, of about 10 miles goes to Chanctonbury Ring via Cissbury Ring and return..

The routes will be clearly sign posted and marshals will be placed at key places. In addition there are 8 Aid Stations spaced along the route provid-ing refreshments and support to entrants. The start/finish is on the Recreation Ground at Hill Barn, Worthing.

Car Parking is available in the Norwich Union car park. If you require accommo-dation, please visit the (3FC) website. There are changing and toilet facili-ties at Hill Barn and refreshments are available (food and drink). We will have a massage service available at the finish for those in need. All runners and walkers who complete the course will receive a medal. Souvenir sports-wear will be available.

Aid Stations

Progress of runners will be monitored by radio (R) and St. John Ambulance Brigade (St.J) will be in attendance at key locations on the course. If it is necessary to drop out of the race, please do so at an Aid Station and ensure that the Marshals are told. Limited rescue facilities exist to get any runners back to the start. All runners are expected to finish the course in a MAXIMUM of six hours

Aid Stations are spaced along the route to provide refreshment and support to entrants.
